This celebratory match produced fine entertainment for the crowd enjoying a fine sunny afternoon. Understandably, the match was almost totally dominated by the Tannadice side which would have won by a far greater margin, but for the exploits of the Luncarty 'keeper. After several near misses it took a slice of luck for us to open the scoring, Scott Kopel's cross from the left being deflected past the keeper by a defender after 21 minutes. Tommy Coyne scored the second in the 33rd minute after being brought down in the box. He got up to convert the spot kick himself. It was almost on the hour mark before the next goal came, John Clark hitting a 35 yarder.
Twenty minutes from time Tommy Coyne's cut-back gave John Clark an opening but his mis-timed effort was hammered into the roof of the net from close in by substitute John Bishop. The final goal followed a good move which allowed Tommy Coyne to get to the bye-line, before cutting the ball back for John Clark to score his second, seven minutes from the end.
