Match Report

Both sides tested their opposition keepers on the ten minute mark. Connecting with a flick from Tony Watt, Matthew Cudjoe was first to try with a shot that stung the palms of Sam Long. Immediately after, Falkirk hit on the counter and Jack Walton had to get down quickly to prevent Callumn Morrison from opening the scoring.

Ten minutes later, Ross Docherty will feel he could have done better with a shot fired wide of the post after the ball broke to the midfielder just outside the area.

United were eventually handed the opener on a plate on 28 minutes when a slack defensive ball across the Falkirk area was intercepted by Kai Fotheringham who tapped the ball past Long to net his first competitive goal for United.

With their tails up, United looked like they might net another three minutes later when Tony Watt broke into the box, but Long was up to the task with a save from close range.



As United struggled to stem the flow of attacks from Falkirk in the dying stages, four different players were cautioned for bad tackles; Grimshaw, Glass, Graham and Macleod all shown yellow for fouls.
