The first outing of 1987 brought two points but it was hardly a vintage performance. Curiously it bore a striking similarity to the earlier meeting of the two sides. An indifferent display for over an hour, culminating in two superb strikes at goal. To be honest Saints had the better chances in the first half with Billy Thomson making at least three excellent saves. At the other end Campbell Moneys only call into action came when he tipped a curling shot from Billy Kirkwood round the post after only three minutes.
Goalmouth action at either end was singularly lacking in the second period. A header by Eamonn Bannon from a Paul Sturrock cross in the 65th minute, being the earliest threat of the half. Seven minutes later Eamonn's sortie on goal was halted by Neil Cooper on the edge of the box and Ian Redford's in swinging free kick beat Money as it entered the top right-hand corner This settled the side and several more chances 'were created until Paul Sturrock fired in our second with a shot from 25 yards which gave Money no chance.
