Match Report
The crowd swelled by those seeking the last voucher to secure a reduced priced ticket for the tie with Barcelona were treated, if that is the right word, to a United victory but precious little else. Only a fine individual goal by Iain Ferguson near the end put Tannadice fans in a happier frame of mind. Not that there was very much chance of anything other than a United victory. Billy Kirkwood fired in a cross which Kevin Gallacher directed past a startled John Gardiner in the 12th minute to put us ahead. Unfortunately, little of note happened to concern either goalkeeper from then on.
Not until Iain Ferguson controlled the ball 25 yards out before swivelling towards goal, left three defenders in his wake before hammering the ball past Gardiner. Pity so many United fans missed out, as they left early to secure a vital brief for the Barca game.
