This dress rehearsal for the Scottish Cup semi-final did little to provide clues as to the likely winners. What it did do was to prove both sides are well adept at missing chances. Clearly the greater share of these fell to us, especially the second half when we had advantage of the very strong wind. Actually we probably played better against the wind and Kevin Gallacher blazed over from close range and Dave Narey miskicked in front of goal. At the other end Tommy Coyne shot over when clean through. Five minutes from half-time, Stuart Rafferty found a gap in the defence and drove the ball past Alan Main.
Given the advantage of the elements, it was no surprise that Dundee were pinned back for most of the second half. No matter how hard we tried nor how many chances we created, a goal just didn't appear on the cards. A golden opportunity from the spot was scorned when Iain Ferguson's kick was brilliantly saved by Geddes. Iain Ferguson, Paul Sturrock, John Holt, and John Clark all came close to equalising and as both points appeared to be drifting away fortune smiled on us. Jim McInally pumped a speculative high ball into the box and Bobby Glennie only under pressure from one of his colleagues turned the ball wide of his keeper to save a point for us.
