A miserable day all round at Celtic Park for United. Celtic took the lead through Sean Maloney. He played a one-two with Henrik Larsson and unleashed a left-footed shot from 6 yards. The lead is doubleed before the half hour mark through Didier Agathe. Alan Thompson's corner allows Bobo Balde to dominate in the box and Agathe was on hand to bundle the ball over the line. As half time approached a Celtic Park penalty was awarded when Larsson went down under the challenge from Paul Gallacher. Alan Thompson converted from the spot and a miserable half came to an end.
A passing move by Celtic mid way through the half resulted in a tremendous goal by Jackie McNamara. He received a pass from Larsson and thundered the ball into the roof of the net from 20 yards out. With seven minutes left a long ball from Thompson found Henrik Larsson who ran completely clear and beat Gallacher with a shot over the keeper.
