A well merited victory, but not for the first time this season, the final score didn't reflect United's territorial advantage. Controlling the game, throughout, two goals was a poor return for their efforts, although there was a missed penalty to take into account. Playing down the slope in the first half United immediately pressed forward with Paul Sturrock and Richard Gough both going close on at least two occasions.
A succession of corners eventually produced a goal when Stuart Beedie's kick found Eamonn Bannon unmarked and Eamonn's curling left-foot shot escaped Lowrie's outstretched fingers. If Eamonn was Saint then, he turned sinner when he missed a penalty in the 35th minute after Dall had needlessly handled. Eamonn atoned a few minutes later when, he sent over a cross for Richard Gough to head powerfully for goal. Lowrie seemed to have it covered but allowed the ball to slip from his grasp and enter the net.
Plenty of chances came United's way in the second half but Lowrie and his defensive colleagues kept us at bay.
