If previous United performances this season had given manager Jim McLean cause for concern, then there is no doubt this comprehensive victory gave him equal pleasure. United once again demonstrated their European flair and hopefully the form shown in Ireland will be repeated at home. No doubting the stars of the show. They were Paul Sturrock and Eamonn Bannon who between them bagged all United's goals. Maurice Malpas swung over a corner, Richard Gough at the near post back-headed the ball on for Paul Sturrock to nod in the first. Eamonn Bannon's probing runs were causing the Bohemian defence considerable problems but it was his header from a Davie Dodd's cross which put us two ahead. Four minutes later Eamonn Bannon hammered in a Paul Sturrock cut-back, and O'Neill failed to halt the ball's progress into the net. In controversial circumstances Gino Lawless nodded in a Davis's cross, and despite a linesman's raised flag the goal was allowed to stand.
Eight minutes after the interval, a superb move involving Dave Narey and Eamonn Bannon ended with Paul Sturrock thumping the ball past O'Neill. The fifth United goal was perhaps the pick of the bunch. Richard Gough's run created the room for Paul Sturrock and his spectacular left foot strike left O'Neill spectating. Rocky O'Brien hooked in a further consolation goal to end the scoring.
