Biography

At the age of 17, James (aka Monty) was still a pupil at Morgan Academy when he was signed by junior side Elmwood. A prolific goalscorer he moved to Dundee in 1932 before joining United a season later, initially on a one month deal which was later extended. After a short run in the team, he was released in February 1934. He went on to join East Fife before Arbroath and later the Dundee YMCA Anchorage amateurs. As well as playing football, Monty was a wicket keeper with Downfield cricket club. Tragically, Monty passed away in January 1936, having collapsed in a tram car at age 23.
