Biography

A native of Motherwell, Tommy was a young prospect with Muir Street School and Motherwell Welfare Hearts before he gained junior football experience with Whitburn.

At the age of 21, he joined Hibernian in 1935, and after a season, he established himself as a frequent member of the starting eleven. His form attracted the attention of many clubs before he signed for English Second Division side Luton Town in the summer of 1938.

Tommy joined United as a 'guest player' during World War 2 and was in the side that played in the Emergency War Cup final in 1940.

He left United in June 1940 to go back to Luton before turning out for Albion Rovers between 1943 and 1944. Having all but hung up his boots, he briefly returned to play as a trialist for a struggling United in October 1945.

Sadly, just six years later, Tommy was severely injured in a mining accident and he remained in poor health until his death in February 1955.
