    Willie had been with Lochgelly United before moving south of the border. He played with eleven English sides and signed for United from Hull City. He stayed just briefly with United and appears to have joined the armed services early in WW2.

  • Dundee United put the Warriors through their paces at Ochilview. And if the margin was slender there was no doubt about the visitors being the more skilful side. Gray missed a penalty for the homesters, but against that United might well have gained another two goals but for their keeper's remarkable clearances of shots from White and Gardiner.
