George was just seventeen years old when he signed from Stobswell as a reserve. He made just three appearances during his first season before moving on loan to Brechin City and later Falkirk during the 1936/37 season, before returning to United. Still playing with the reserves, he found himself in and out of the side, and at the end of the campaign he was released.
George later returned to Falkirk and also played for Hearts while he was stationed in Edinburgh during the Second World War. After hostilities ended, he became a successful businessman and an accomplished golfer and bowls player.
