Biography
Although he was born in Russia, Mario is actually a Dutch national, having come through the youth ranks of Rotterdam regional side XerxesDZB. Establishing himself as a prolific goalscorer with the Dutch side, Mario was signed up by Sparta Rotterdam in January 2011, where he again found the net regularly, earning a contract extension later that year.
Mario's contract with Sparta expired at the end of the 2013-14 season and during the following pre-season, he joined United on a free transfer, signing a two year deal with the Club. Mario got off to an impressive start with a stunning long range strike against Motherwell to win the club's first home game of the new season, but a series of injuries and fitness problems saw him fall in and out of the side for its remainder. In March 2015, Mario collected a League Cup runners-up medal, starting for United against Celtic in the final at Hampden Park.
Ultimately, recurring injuries plagued Mario's time at United and under new head coach Mixu Paatelainen he failed to make an appearance and was released in November 2015.

United stormed to the top of the league on the opening weekend of the 2014/15 season with a stunning 3-0 away win at Pittodrie. United had failed to record a single victory against the Dons last season so it was always going to be a tough opening fixture for the tangerines. Jackie's first team selection of the season had a familiar look from middle to front, with the Manager sticking by players used extensively last season. However, at the back there were three debutants in the four man defence. Jarek Fojut and Callum Morris formed the central defensive partnership and Conor Townsend came in at left back. Former United man, David Goodwillie started up front for the Dons.
-
Another solid performance from United earned them their second consecutive league victory and clean sheet. Manager, Jackie McNamara, went with the same side that started the previous match in Aberdeen. A large United support were in attendance for this opening Tannadice fixture, with the Shed end opened to house overspill from the other two stands.
-
United's best performance of the season thus far ensured a comfortable win over their near neighbours in the first derby match of the season. Ryan Dow recovered from injury to replace the suspended Ciftci, otherwise it was an unchanged line up to the last outing against Hamiltion.
-
There were four changes to the starting eleven from Tuesday evening’s victory over Dunfermline, in came Sean Dillon, John Souttar, Blair Spittal and Adam Taggart for Jamie Robson, Aaron Kuhl, Charlie Telfer and Darko Bodul.
