Biography
John began his career at Cowdenbeath, making over 100 appearances in goal before moving north to Brechin City, and after four seasons at Glebe Park he moved to English Third Division side Bradford City in 1971.
When Sandy Davie announced he was emigrating to Australia at the end of the 1973/74 season, manager Jim McLean brought John to Tannadice as a replacement, originally on a part-time contract. Although he failed to make a first team appearance in his only season with United, John was an unused substitute for the Cup Winners' Cup matches against Jiul Petrosani and Bursaspor.
He was released in May 1975, and returned to Glebe Park, where he finished his career and moved into coaching.
