Biography

Finn began his career with his hometown club Lyn Oslo, going on to win the Norwegian league championship in 1964. He was a Norwegian international and had played in the 1966 World Cup qualifying stage matches prior to being brought to Tannadice by Jerry Kerr in October 1965. Signing professional forms with United meant that he lost any chance of more international honours, as Norway had a strict amateur rule that allowed only their home based players in the side. Finn was a right winger but played a few times on the left side during his time with United.

He made his debut two days later against Rangers at Ibrox and went on to become a regular in the line up as United qualified for European football for the first time, by finishing in 5th place in Division One, the Club's highest ever position at the time. He was in the side that faced Barcelona in Spain as United made their debut in the European arena and he scored the second goal, a penalty that ensured a famous victory. He also played in the return leg at Tannadice, as well as both legs against Juventus in the next round. In the summer of 1967, he was part of a sixteen man squad that travelled to America to represent Dallas Tornado in the United Soccer Association.

After three successful years with United, he left in June 1968, playing his last game against his former club Lyn Oslo in a friendly in Norway. Finn then signed for DWS Amsterdam for a fee estimated at £25,000, and later signed for Utrecht. When Norway scrapped their strict amateur rule in 1969 Finn was again able to play for his country. He was also capped three times for Norway in bandy, a sport similar to Ice Hockey, and having visited the United States of America with United a few years before, he moved to the States in 1973 and became a placekicker for the American Football team the Houston Oilers. He returned once more to Lyn Oslo before injury forced him to play out his career among the country’s lower divisions.

Tragically, Finn died in a road accident near Lillehammer in Norway in September 1985.
