Ross started off with Raith Rovers, progressing to the first team squad during the 2010-11 season, and became the regular back-up keeper before injuring his knee in December 2011. On his return from injury he made his senior debut against Morton in March 2012. He went on to make over 30 appearances for the Starks Park club, before going out on loan to League Two side Elgin City in January 2015.
After returning to his parent club, he was ruled out for the rest of that season with a torn kidney in December 2015. When his contract with Raith ended, he signed a one year deal with Hibernian in July 2016 and made his debut in the second leg of a Europa League qualifier against Brondby in Denmark. Although mainly used as back up, he played in goal for over a third of Hibs' matches that season. He signed a two year extension prior to the 2017-18 season, and again took over as first choice keeper for most of September and October before injuring his shoulder in November 2017.
Ross played a handful of games for Hibs at the beginning of the 2018-19 season, but was soon further down the pecking order, and in January 2019 he joined United on loan until the end of the season, replacing the departing Matej Rakovan.
