Having began his youth career with Killyleagh Boys in County Down, Northern Ireland, Trevor joined the youth academy of Sunderland at age 14 and he spent the next 8 years with the club, signing his first professional terms in 2007. During his time with Sunderland, he represented Northern Ireland at all youth levels before playing for the nation's B side in 2009. Although he never played for Sunderland, he had spells on loan at Chesterfield, Lincoln City and others before leaving to join Bury in 2012.

Trevor later played for Portsmouth, Cheltenham Town and Hartlepool United during a an accomplished career as a first choice keeper, before joining SPFL Premiership side Motherwell. While with the Fir Park side, he earned his first full International cap for Northern Ireland. Out of contract, Trevor joined United on a two year deal in July 2021.

Having made only a handful of appearances in the first team during the 2021-22 season, on 5 January he rejoined former Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson at League One side Morecambe on loan for the remainder of the season.
