Biography

A Perth native, David originally came through the youth ranks of Abernethy Cubs, Bridge of Earn and the St Johnstone Academy before becoming a part of the youth set up at Celtic. He later joined Hibernian's academy before going on to make his pro debut for the Edinburgh side in 2009.

He quickly established himself as a regular with the first team and for four seasons he played regularly making over 100 league appearances. At the end of his contract, he return to his home town club, signing for St Johnstone.

In ten seasons with the Perth club, David played over 350 times in the Premiership, most notably helping the side to cup wins in the Scottish Cup, in 2013-14 and 2020-21, and the League Cup in 2020-21. An injury in 2021 resulted in an extended absence from the side, and the following season, playing opportunities were limited. At the end of the 2022-23 season he left at the end of his contract.

In the summer of 2023, David signed a short-term contract with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. After his deal expired in January 2024, he signed with United on a deal until the end of the season.
