The Terrors traveled to Paisley on the back of an impressive win over Hearts at Tannadice in their opening match of the new SPL season and with the old Love Street now gone, United were playing their first ever match at the brand new St Mirren Park. To reflect manager Craig Levein's satisfaction with the result and performance of his side against Hearts, he decided to stick with the same starting line-up for this clash with the Buddies. St Mirren decided to hand home debuts to two former United players: goalkeeper Paul Gallacher and defender Lee Mair.
There were two changes to the United line-up for the visit of St Mirren. Sean Dillon came in for the suspended Prince Buaben and David Goodwillie started in attack alongside Casalinuovo with Danny Cadamarteri making way. Former United men Paul Gallacher, Lee Mair and Chris Innes all started for the visitors.
United and St Johnstone fought out a pulsating 3 – 3 draw at Tannadice. The visitors were deservedly two up at half time through MacDonald and Craig. It was a different game in the second period and United amazingly went ahead after goals from Daly, Swanson and Myrie-Williams only for Saints to hit back and earn a draw with a goal from Kevin Moon.
United kicked off season 2010/2011 at St Mirren Park with the starting eleven showing three changes from the side that clinched the Scottish Cup in the club’s last competitive outing. With Andy Webster returning to Rangers and Mihael Kovacevic injured, Paul Dixon and Darren Dods returned to defence, while in midfield Scott Robertson started in place of the suspended Danny Swanson. The close season saw St Mirren make more changes in personnel than any other SPL club – ten signings following Danny Lennon's appointment as manager in Paisley. Six of the new faces started this match.
