A Croatian striker who had played for several clubs in his home country and in Italy, Dragutin came to Scotland in 1993 to sign for Dundee. After one year at Dens Park, he moved on to Falkirk, helping the Brockville side win the First Division title. He joined United at the start of the 1994-95 season, with the clubs initially failing to agree a fee - they would later settle for a reported £50,000 prior to the case going to a tribunal. He made his first appearance during a pre-season tour of Malaysia and made his competitive debut against Hibs at Easter Road in the opening match of the League campaign. His second match saw his first goal for United, an extra-time winner over St Mirren in the League Cup, and he would later score against Motherwell and Kilmarnock before disappearing from the first team in October. He failed to break back into the starting eleven, and when United were relegated at the end of the season he was released.
Joining Tirsense in Portugal, he would later return to Italy to play for various clubs, as well as a short stay in Iceland. Moving into coaching, he eventually return to his hometown as a coach.
